  • The Overview

Aaron Hall approached me to design and develop a web and branding strategy for his transition from amateur to professional boxing. Formulated ideas based on his preferences and personality, I was able to create a visually pleasing, yet fundamentally functional site that showcased his presence and multimedia.

  • The Challenge

Upon envisioning this project, I went about trying to figure out a different approach in designing a site primarily based on multimedia content. Gathering inspiration from various boxing and sports websites, I was able to pinpoint a viable solution to this challenge.

Also, by focusing on a responsive grid-based layout format, I was able to display all of his media effectively.

  • The Process

Upon brainstorming concepts for both the brand and the site, I went to a few boxing gyms in downtown Austin to conduct research on how they’ve presented themselves as promotions.

Gathering a few promotional materials (both locally and online), I pinpointed the visual style and logo prospects that would create a more lasting impact on Aaron’s brand.

Color Palette

The color palette is reminiscent to classic boxing posters and characteristics of the “golden era”, while incorporating a flat design scope.

Inspiration ranged from sites like SBNation, Boxing Junkie, Premier Boxing Champions, and ESPN in regards to their functionally usable experiences, clean designs and color palettes.

  • The Results

The biggest challenge I faced throughout this project was the content, which is very scarce due to it primarily being just multimedia. Managing feedback was also a challenge due to differing viewpoints behind both the core design and logo preferences.

Besides such, I managed to invest the time needed in creating documentation to alleviate any shortcomings during each of the processes. Also, sticking to a universal vision was beneficial in completing an otherwise easy-to-do project.
